This is True Freedom When You Learn How to Harness It!
Here’s hoping you had a great July 4th!
Naturally, freedom’s on my mind, and as a Self-Actualization and Spiritual Leadership Coach, I always look within for the keys to feeling free.
Many of us don’t really feel free. We unconsciously seek freedom through control, money and relationships, as well as through goals and strategies developed in our minds–what the world (and we) think will give us freedom.
Ever had a moment when you had a gut response that you knew you should have trusted, but your mind took over only to enslave you in what you “should do instead”?
I’ve come to understand that by giving our minds a time out and listening to our body’s wisdom instead, we can find and harness our innate guidance system that can give us that feeling of freedom we all desire.
One of the tools that helps me uncover this for myself and others is Human Design, which I just love, because it’s a combination of Astrology, the Tao, Kabbalah, Chakra Energy System, and Quantum Energy.
In short, it’s infused with lots of ancient wisdom that guides us in living as we are “designed.”
The majority of us (70% or so) are known as Generators who need to use our Sacral Authority–or our immediate gut response. We can’t access this through our mind, but through our felt experience–our body saying to us at any given moment– YES or NO! This is something we have to practice feeling in our body. For me, I’ve learned that this feeling shows up in between my Sacral and Heart Chakras.
When we always rely on our minds, we usually are pulling in information from our lifetime’s journey–ideas, beliefs, and judgments that can find us ignoring our gut responses and looking for the logic of things. Yet, the freedom results from trusting that innate intuitive “hit” that we get.
Those of us with Open/Undefined Head and Anja (3rd eye) Centers in our Human Design can find this freedom by cherishing the brilliance of our open minds and giving it the space and time to dream and deliberate, AND we also have to understand that because the energy centers are open and undefined, that we can often have so many inspirations, ideas and need for proof that we can become fuzzy, frustrated, and have difficulty making decisions and trusting ourselves.
So, the work in cultivating this amazing trust in our innate impulses and intuition is to try to FEEL our body’s responses first, looking for that YES or NO. Trusting this is where the freedom lies.
You don’t have to look too far either! I bet you remember a time that you trusted your strong and fast intuitive response and felt that freedom! You didn’t need proof or advice or a plan, you just believed in it and dove right in.
Here’s an example. Not long ago I was asked to consider throwing my name in a hat for a position. As I received this information my immediate gut reaction was a NO. However, I ignored my body’s intuitive response and allowed my mind to take over. It was saying to me…
“This could be a game-changer for you, Mo.”
“They thought of you for this, you should at least consider it.”
“This may take you away from what you’ve been building, but look at the doors that can open for you!”
ETC…
So I listened to my mind and to the suggestions of many others to “go for it”, yet my INNER SELF knew this was a NO.
Long story short, I continued to the next few steps in the interview process and got to the point where my body was screaming at me and causing me added stress I didn’t want or need. My mind continued to ruminate and look for the reasons to make it a YES.
I’m grateful for the awareness that followed, because I gave myself the space to tune into my body and TRUST and ACCEPT the NO. I also sat with my MIND and thanked its process and logic, and the dreams associated with the possibility of this opportunity that showed up. But in the end it was a true NO for me, and so I stepped away from it.
Regardless of your Human Design (although there’s so much freedom in knowing it!), chances are you have or will struggle with the relationship between your mind and your body, and feeling the freedom of trusting that gut response.
Here’s a simple process to find this balance between mind and body:
- Try to listen for the body’s responses first. Where do you feel it in your body and what is your body saying to you? Are you wanting to ignore that wisdom?
- Then, listen to the chatter of your mind. Slow it down. Write down those thoughts and ideas. Ask yourself, what’s true and what’s not true.
- Finally, sit with the gut reaction statement and feel into it. Do the same with the mind chatter statement. What feels true? What makes you feel a sense of freedom?
Be Honest with Yourself. Make your decision. Trust yourself.
